Letter from the House of Delegates Chair

For those who don’t know me, my name is Dr. Elizabeth Hoefer (Hay-Fer), my friends call me Liz. I am excited to step into the new role as Chair of the House of Delegates for CalChiro. I served locally in the Orange County District as Secretary and then as President beginning in 2011. With the help of many dedicated volunteers, we have grown the district and implemented systems that are repeatable and successful. This has allowed our district to be voted District of the Year four years in a row. I believe in collaboration and inspiring people to work together.

For the last two years, I have served on the Board of Directors (BOD) at the state level, first as a Director at Large and then as Secretary. I have also served on several state level committees for many years. I am very familiar with the leadership in CalChiro and the history of changes we have walked through as an organization. The House of Delegates was created because the Board of Directors recognized our members’ voices have not been properly represented since the changes in our governance occurred a few years ago. While the intention of all the changes initially were good in theory, the practical application left many less than enthused. I hear you. It is important to remember that change was necessary, and we as an organization met that challenge head on.

After several years of working in a new model, the BOD now understands many things worked well, but others have not. One of our biggest oversights was the “voice of the people” was not being recognized in a meaningful capacity. YOU are what makes this organization amazing. YOU are the very reason the BOD is creating and implementing the House of Delegates. Your voice needs to be heard and understood. I know that, I value that, and as your Chair I am committed to making sure decisions are never to be made without proper representation from our membership.

It is a very exciting time to be a part of the historical changes here at CalChiro, and I need each and every one of you to help me make our Association the best it can be. I truly believe that many hands make light work. I am also realistic in understanding that 20% of the people do 80% of the work. Can I be vulnerable with you? I need help. Will you help me? I got involved so my voice could be heard and so I could protect chiropractic in California. I believe that each licensed doctor of chiropractic should be able to practice according to our scope. That is EXACTLY what CalChiro represents. It exists to help all DCs in California practice how they see fit within our scope. Help me keep that freedom alive by serving in CalChiro. Get involved with your local district and be a voice for your profession. We all have a role to play. Now is the time to let the BOD know precisely what you want! Become a delegate for your district.

I look forward to serving with you and representing this incredible Association and our membership. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, comments or concerns.

At your service,
Dr. Elizabeth S. Hoefer
